★ This is a copperplate engraving from France.
This is a color engraving from issue #37 of the high-end fashion magazine La Mode Illustrée, which introduced the latest Parisian fashion in 1884. It depicts a dress by the famous Parisian couturier Mme Bréant-Castel, illustrated by Franz Sandhaas (one of the prominent fashion illustrators of the time). Madame Castel's boutique was located at 6 Rue de la Paix, near the Opera House, and she was a well-known figure in the high fashion world of the era.
• There is a tear on the left side of the paper and a crease in the center. There are also signs of age, stains, and scuffing.
