Antique Point de Rose Rosette Bobbin & Needlework Lace Collar

A beautiful and exquisite antique Belgian handmade bobbin lace and fine needlework collar/bertha.

Likely Brussels lace or Duchesse lace from the 19th century, possibly Point de Rose, or a piece made in Bruges.

The two classic, plump roses are Point de Rose with 13 petals.

The center of the rosette/rose, resembling a ring, with its stamen and pistil, is adorned with various needlework techniques, including fine openwork embroidery and raised embroidery, making it a joy to behold. ✵✼

Delicate small flowers, beautiful side views of petals/veins, and leaves. The carefully defined outlines are elegant. The gauze-like, openwork mesh with drawn-out threads, knitted with very fine thread, is refreshing.

Small motifs are densely embroidered. The outer edge is a graceful scallop shape with densely embroidered petals and leaves that flutter gently.

The subtle variations in tightness, shading, design, and details, achieved by changing the knitting technique for each petal and vein, are incredibly delicate. It has a delicate and lovely atmosphere.

The color is a slightly darkened antique ivory, reminiscent of rich, dark fresh cream, pale butter, or grassy hues, as if time-kissed. Depending on the light and source, it can also appear in pale sepia tones or khaki-gray hues.

It has a light, smooth, and silky texture with a crispness that allows it to stand on its own without support, as shown in the image. The thread is presumed to be natural linen.

There are some loose threads, and a few faint brown discolorations near the edges, but they are not very noticeable.

It appears to have been washed once at the time of purchase. It has been home-cleaned with natural soap and is in clean condition.

This is a wonderful piece that retains its original color and charm. It is rare for such old pieces to survive in good condition, and this piece is in relatively good condition for its age. Please excuse any minor imperfections.
