This is a set of Plarail Advance trains: the E5 Series Hayabusa, E6 Series Komachi, and E3 Series Tsubasa. As you can see from the photos, the Hayabusa and Komachi only have couplers. The trains have been tested and are in working order, though the Hayabusa's operation is slightly poorer.
Additionally, the Hayabusa can only be opened with a screwdriver.
