This is a Roth viola made in 1999.
It appears to be in the same class as the current #51 model (major retailer reference price: 693,000 yen).
It has a large volume, clear articulation, and good balance across all strings, making it a very enjoyable instrument to play. The sound resonates well even in the higher positions. I have decided to have a custom-made instrument created, so I am listing this one for sale in hopes that someone will play it.
